Asian Kabuki Vessel Pendant with Display Shadow Box, 8" x
Asian Kabuki Vessel Pendant with Display Shadow Box
This pendant has three traditional Asian theater family crests etched in bi-metal. Etched bi-metal is made by fusing a layer of copper to a layer of silver. The artist created design is applied as a resist to the copper and then etched, thus revealing the silver. In the end the copper area is oxidized with a brown/black patina. This is done while metal is flat. The sheet is then formed using a 20 ton hydralic press to shape the metal three dimentionally. This form is then rivited to a brass frame as well as a mirror form on the back. The final piece is has an opening at the top so it is an actual vessel.
The background of the shadow box is handmade paper. The pendant can be displayed when not being worn so it can still be appreciated and not hidden away in a jewelry box.
